LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that Allama Iqbal’s poetry teaches us that religion and the world are not separate; more steps are needed to convey this message to the new generation. He was addressing a special session of a three-day international conference on Iqbal’s Ideology of Peace & Progress’ jointly organized by Punjab University Department of Persian, Punjab Higher Education Commission, Lahore College for Women University and University of Home Economics at Al Raazi Hall here on Wednesday. On this occasion, University of Jhang Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nabila Rehman, Chairman Qasim Ali Shah Foundation Syed Qasim Ali Shah, Chairman Department of Persian Prof Dr Muhammad Nasir, faculty members and students were present. In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood said that great people like Allama Iqbal are born in centuries. He said that Iqbal’s poetry awakened a new spirit in the youth by making them think against the west civilization. He said that if the current situation is examined, the stories of oppression of the small region by the world powers is proof that what Allama Iqbal said a hundred years ago is proving to be true. He lauded efforts of the organizers for organizing such conference. Dr Nabila Rehman said that Iqbal’s poetry has shown us the path to peace and development. He said that living nations listen, know their ancestors, and act. He said that for peace in the world, from personality development to society development, it is the most important need of the hour. Syed Qasim Ali Shah said that one should adopt the philosophy of Allama Iqbal to move forward in life and be free from fear. He said that the day the East understood Iqbal, the day the West would suffer. He said that it is a good omen to organize such events for the young generation to know Iqbal thoght. Prof Dr Muhammad Nasir thanked all the participants.
