LAHORE: Chairman Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and Founder, Akhuwat Foundation Dr Amjad Saqib has said that there is no shortage of resources in the country but there is a need for proper utilization. He was addressing the degree awarding ceremony organized by Punjab University School of Economics at Faletti’s Hotel, Lahore here on Sunday. On this occasion, former Finance Minister Dr Hafeez A. Pasha, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashif Anwar, Dean Faculty of Business, Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, Controller of Examinations Muhammad Rauf Nawaz, faculty members, students and their parents were present. In his address, Amjad Saqib said that the main reason for the imbalance in the society is the unfair distribution of wealth. He said that one should spend according to their needs for a better life. He said that economists should take steps to promote entrepreneurship. He said that it is possible to change society by connecting the knowledge of economics with ethics. Hafeez Pasha said that the economic conditions of Pakistan are on the way to improvement. He said that the acceleration in the stock exchange, the strengthening of the rupee and the record profits of the commercial banks are all positive indicators. He said that after the elections, there will be more stability in the country’s economy. He said that providing high and quality education to students by providing 70% of expenses from PU is commendable. Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood expressed hope that the graduates will strengthen the country’s economy by playing a role in the field. He said that you are our ambassador, whoever learns new knowledge should come to varsity and teach to the next generation. He said that the School of Economics under the leadership of Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry is playing an active role for the economic stability of the country. Kashif Anwar said that for the recovery of the economy, the tax net must be increased and alternative means must be used. He said that we also have to increase our manufacturing capacity. Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry congratulated the graduating students and their parents on achieving important milestones in their lives. He ‘In today’s world, being equipped with knowledge and higher education is crucial. It is imperative to have the ability to think fast, consistently grasp knowledge and land on your feet. He advised the graduates to follow their dreams, take risks, learn from their failures, and believe in themselves and their vision. He said that our students are making a name at national and international level. Later, degrees were distributed among 141 students of BS Economics, MPhil and Ph.D.
